Just a few more days to go!

I can’t believe it… this is our last week of homeschooling for this school year!

Do all moms get as giddy about this as I do?

I enjoy homeschooling — I really do — but the kids and I get into that “when is this going to end” sort of funk in January, and it’s hard to shake it off sometimes.

But, we’ve persevered, and the end is in sight!

I will probably give them a week of NOTHING to do — nothing except go outside, play, play, and play some more. It will be a blessing for all of us.

After that, I’m hoping to get some good historical stories for the kids to go through. The *goal*, mind you, is to “fill in the gaps” in my journal. I hate to admit it, but history fell through the cracks this year. Sad, sad, sad. I had such high hopes, too!

Oh well.

I bought several good historical stories, such as St. Isaac and the Indians, Father Marquette and the Great Rivers, Kateri Tekakwitha, and several others, so perhaps I can start with those and go from there.

Along with the relief I feel that we’ve finished another year (and hopefully I haven’t scarred my kids too badly! ) is the almost irresistable urge to jump right in and start buying books for next year.

You know what I’m talking about.

Those catalogs start coming in, and as I look through them while nursing Grace I fight that urge to jump on the computer and start clicking the “BUY ME NOW” buttons! I’m doing my best to HOLD OFF until we’re finished with this year before I start buying for next year. AND I’m also trying to be much better about using my library’s on-line catalog (and inter-library loan system). As fun as it is to have the brown van pull up in front of my house, I need to FOCUS and only buy what is necessary… as tempting as it is… well, maybe a FEW extra books wouldn’t hurt…
