  1. Hi Ouiz –
I read this book, too, a few years ago. A friend recommended it to me. I knew it was a bit off my radar, but I then thought, “well, perhaps I need to expand my horizons from Celtic fiction….”

I ‘enjoyed’ the read, meaning, I agree with your assessment of it as a work of fiction.

YET, just like you, I was really BOTHERED by the ‘cult’ aspect applied to the Blessed Mother. Left me with a ‘ewwwwww’ feeling.

Anyhow, my 2cents agree with yours!

  2. I had heard it “praised up one side and down the other” from so many different sources, so I was willing to give it a go.

Truly held my interest — I read it over one evening and early the next morning — but the cult of Mary was just way over the top, and quite disconcerting.

  3. Hi. Just discovered your blog! Sue Monk Kidd is a very talented and engaging writer … but you’re right–she has a very clear message in her work urging women to sample goddess spirituality. I’m working on a book on this topic–it’s a fast growing trend among women young and old. If you’re interested, you can take a look at: http://www.goddessworshipblog.typepad.com/

I’m going to link to your post in my blog tomorrow. Blessings!
