My husband, my hero

My husband is my hero. Truly.

My kids are wonderful, and I do consider it a joy to teach them at home, but that doesn’t mean our days are stress-free, or that everything is all love, joy, peace, and a whole mess o’ sparkles. Like most families, we had been having some problems lately. The kids were not taking their responsibility to complete assignments on time seriously, attitudes were bad, and the house… well, let’s just say that the house was NOT getting cleaned up like it should.

I was getting so frustrated and fed up that I was ready to quit.

Enter my husband — my knight in shining armor — who came to my rescue. While I was too emotionally involved in the issues, he was able to calmly let them know in no uncertain terms that homeschooling is a privilege, and they were to treat it as such. He spelled out what he expected of them, and what would happen if they didn’t shape up.

Just hearing him tell them how hard I work — how much time I put into planning out their lessons, making sure we’re covering all the basics… and how difficult it is to run a house while taking care of 7 children… and that we are living the life we are living because of the sacrifices that we are willingly making for the sake of the kids — made all the difference for me. I was able to hear how much he values and appreciates all that I do, and I cried out of gratitude.

But there’s more.

That evening, after cutting out all the coupons from the Sunday papers, I was looking at a HUGE stack that needed to be filed away… and I hadn’t even begun to start planning out my homeschooling week.

Without my saying a word, he sat down next to me, and said, “here… let me file these for you, and you can start planning. You put in enough work shopping for us on Saturday, so let this be my contribution.”

Is he not the most amazing man?

He sat down with a glass of wine, put on some jazz, and filed TONS of coupons while I wrote out the homeschooling assignments for the week. We had a great time together, and a stressful evening was turned into a relaxing time with the man I love.
